Mackenzie Speilman began swimming at age seven and developed into a year-round competitive swimmer and tri-sport athlete at Potomac Falls High School. Her schedule included early-morning swim practices, dryland training, and commitments in field hockey and soccer.

A recovery plan before surgery

In October 2024, significant shoulder pain made it difficult for Mackenzie to raise her arms. Medical evaluation and imaging identified labral tears in both shoulders. With surgery pending, her surgeon recommended that she explore additional recovery support while continuing to follow her medical plan.

Elite Wellness has been a game-changer in my recovery journey. The team created a plan around my needs and helped me understand each part of the process while I prepared for surgery.

Her Elite Wellness plan used therapist-selected recovery methods based on her presentation, goals, and tolerance. The team also explained the purpose of unfamiliar techniques so she could participate with greater confidence.

Continuing to compete

During this period, Mackenzie qualified for state competition in the 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 200-medley relay, 200-freestyle relay, and 400-freestyle relay. Her team also won a regional title in the 200-freestyle relay.

Support beyond a single session

Mackenzie’s experience reflects Elite Wellness’s assessment-led approach: understand the person, coordinate with the appropriate medical guidance, explain the plan, and adjust support around the athlete’s sport and current needs. Her story is an individual experience and does not guarantee the same result for another client.
